Hiking the Salkantay Trek is an experience reserved for travelers who appreciate the wonders of nature. Turquoise lakes, Salkantay and Huamantay snow capped mountain tops, the Andean plateau and the jungle.

The four day trek ends in Aguas Calientes City (just beneath Machu Picchu). The last day you’ll be able to enjoy a full day in Machu Picchu.

Hiking the Salkantay Trek is an experience reserved for travelers who appreciate the wonders of nature.

Salkantay Trek Day 1: Cusco to Soraypampa Campsite

Ride: driver & private shuttle.

Your private shuttle will pick you up from Cusco or Urubamba and take you to Marcocasa Village (our starting point for the trek and meeting point with the rest of the service team.

After organizing our day-packs (should be light and with only necessary items to permit a comfortable hike), we will start hiking beneath the Vilcabamba Mountain Range to a high plateau where we will have our first views of the Huamantay Mountain 5,900m (19,000ft).

Before arriving to our Soraypampa Campsite, you’ll be able to appreciate the massive Salkantay Peak 6,200m (20,000ft).

Salkantay Trek Day 2: Soraypampa Campsite to Chaullay Campsite

Rise and shine! The day will welcome you with a healthy and natural Chef designed breakfast! This will help you get all the energy you need to start off todays hike!

Today we begin the hike through a curvy path known as “seven snakes” leading to the flank of Mount Salkantay.

After a while, we’ll arrive to a mountain pass at 4,700m (15,400ft). Here you’ll have a close look at Salkantay and Huamantay Mountains.

Tip: you can take a small stone in your pack and leave it when you reach the mountain pass. This practice is a tradition. Your guide will give you more information about this.

After the pass we go downhill to the Chaullay Campsite where our service team will be waiting for your arrival with warm water, drinks and snacks before your chef designed dinner.

Salkantay Trek Day 3: Chaullay Campsite to "La Playa" Campsite

Rise and shine! The day will welcome you with a healthy and natural Chef designed breakfast! This will help you get all the energy you need to start off todays hike!

Today we continue descending through the valley towards the jungle.

On the way down, we’ll enjoy a rest at the Natural Hot Springs of Colpapampa.

Continuing the hike, uou’ll be able to notice a warmer and more humid environment and see the changing landscape and vegetation. Common traits of the path are orchids and hummingbirds.

At La Playa Campsite our service team will be waiting for your arrival with warm water, drinks and snacks before your chef designed dinner.

Salkantay Trek Day 4: La Playa Campsite to Aguas Calientes Town

Rise and shine! The day will welcome you with a healthy and natural Chef designed breakfast! This will help you get all the energy you need to start off todays hike!

Today we start the hike toward Lucmabamba where an original Inca Trail section still remains in good conservation conditions.

We continue towards Llactapata at 2,700m (8,800ft) where you’ll be able to enjoy your first views of Machu Picchu (privileged distance views).

In the afternoon, we continue to by train to Aguas Calientes.

Day 5: Machu Picchu

Rise and shine!

After breakfast, you can board the bus uphill to Machu Picchu (ticket included).

Free time in Machu Picchu. There are several standard circuits or you could go on your own.

After your visit, return to Aguas Calientes and have lunch before boarding the train back to your personal accommodations at Urubamba Sacred Valley or Cusco City. Your train ticket is included.
