Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is a magical place . Its located on top of a mountain, between the Urubamba Sacred Valley and the Amazon Jungle. (More about Where is Machu Picchu).

Machu Picchu was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. It is a city with more than 150 buildings: baths, houses, temples and sanctuaries.

We arrive in the early morning by train to Aguas Calientes. Then, we’ll head up to Machu Picchu by bus. All tickets are included (more on Machu Picchu Tickets here).

Your English speaking guide will be very knowledgeable and tell you interesting historical facts and local folklore stories.

After exploring Machu Picchu, we’ll head back to Ollantaytambo. Your private shuttle and driver will be waiting for you there to take you to your next amazing destination!

Machu Picchu now requires visitors to enter with a certified guide (read our post on Machu Picchu: With or Without a Guide for more information).

Regarding the frequent question our visitors ask, “what to pack?”. We have prepared a “recommended Machu Picchu packing list” PDF file in this post for visitors to have a handy guide.

If you haven’t decided on how to get to Machu Picchu, please read our post on “The Best Ways to Get to Machu Picchu“. We explain about the different alternatives to arrive to the Inca Citadel.

One of the ways is to go by train. In our post on “Train to Machu Picchu,” we explain “how to get by train to Machu Picchu. Also, we’ll tell you about the Hiram Bingham train, and ticket prices.”

Another great advise is to read our post on “Machu Picchu Hike Tours.” You’ll “learn about the different Machu Picchu Hike Tours available. Machu Picchu is located in a unique scenery that makes every hiking alternative a memorable experience. Each tour route has its unique landscape, difficulty, distance, and duration. Most of these hiking tours have privileged access to Inca ruins.”

Another alternative to going to Machu Picchu is the Inca Trail Hike. Learn more about this in our post, “Machu Picchu Inca Trail: What to Expect” to learn about the different treks available (1 day vs 3 day trek). We also have available a post on the “Inca Trail Map: Classic and Express Routes” where you will be able to learn what to expect about each route.

It’s very important to note that the Inca Trail Treks to Machu Picchu are limited and are booked up to a year in advanced. If your interested in the Inca Trail, read our post on “Inca Trail Permits 2019: Availability, Cost and More!”

Take into account that there are additional activities to experience while being at Machu Picchu. As we explain in our post: Machu Picchu: Huayna Picchu Hike, “Huayna Picchu is a mountain situated north of Machu Picchu Citadel. It’s close proximity to Machu Picchu, gives visitors a privileged view of the whole Inca Citadel.” Read the post for further information.

We definitely recommend reading our post “20 Things to Know before going on a Machu Picchu Tour” where we have prepared a list, of the must knows and “it contains tours, activities, places, recommendations and tips. We’re sure it will help you plan your trip better!”
