The Choquequirao Trek

Hiking the Choquequirao Trek is an experience reserved for true adventurers. Indeed, there are some steep zones to hike, but with our Signature Service, you will enjoy every moment.

We will enjoy beautiful views of the snow-capped peaks of the Vilcabamba Range, the steep Apurimac Canyon and through abundant vegetation while getting closer to the citadel of Choquequirao.

On average, we grade this trek  at 3.5 to 4 (5 being the most difficult)”. Learn more about the Choquequirao Trek Difficulty here.

We begin our trek at Cachora Town. Here we will give our heavy bags to the porters. We should only carry our light day-packs. Learn more about the Choquequirao Trek Map here

Choquequirao Trek 4 days or 5? (click link for full details on this post). This is a frequent question we receive. We confidently suggest on booking the 5 day trek. The main reason is that you’ll be able to enjoy a full day at Choquequirao. On the 4 day trek you can only spend a brief time on the site, specially if you aren’t an experienced hiker.

Our journey is lead by experienced guides, cooks and porters that will be taking care of you beyond your needs. Our meals are deliciously recognized because we design them with our Main Chef. Don’t settle for average dishes during the journey!

Remember that we can personalize any part of this adventure to fulfill your needs and desires. Just contact us!

“Amazing trip! Great service, food, and awesome guides. We had an amazing journey! Travelled in privately with my family and couldn't be happier! The food was truly amazing! The camping site was ready before we arrived to the campsite so we could relax from the hike as soon as we arrived!”

“We had such a great time! My boyfriend and I talked with Jose since the initial inquiries about Peru and he was there to guide us through the booking journey. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone. They really exceeded my expectations. I know I'll be back!”

TRIP ITINERARY

The Choquequirao Trek Tour is a journey only few travelers dare to adventure.

Day 1: Cusco City to Chiquiska Campsite

Ride: driver & private shuttle.

Your private shuttle will pick you up from Cusco and take you Cachora Town (our starting point for the trek).

On the way, you will enjoy first hand views of the Salcantay and Huamantay mountains.

After organizing our day-packs (should be light and with only necessary items to permit a comfortable hike), we will start the Choquequirao Trek along the edge of the mountain Capuliyoc.

There, we will get our first views of the Apurimac canyon and the trail that lies ahead.

After a few hiking hours, we will arrive to Chiquiska where we will spend our first camping night.

Congratulations! You finished your first trekking day!

Day 2: Chuquiska Campsite to Choquequirao Campsite

After breakfast, our hiking will still be downhill to the rushing waters of the Apurimac (Rosalina Beach 2,450 m.a.s.l.)

We will cross the suspension bridge of the Apurimac River and from here we will have an uphill (steep) hike until reaching Marampata – a small meadow where we will have lunch.

As we ascend on the steep trail, we will start to appreciate the canyon environment on both sides of the Apurimac canyon.

The afternoon hike is not as steep or demanding as we approach the Choquequirao Site.

Today we will camp near the site.

Congratulations! You finished your second trekking day!

Day 3: Choquequirao: Full Day

Rise and Shine!

Today is a full day to explore the different mysteries Choquequirao keeps.

You will be able to notice how the vast majority of visitors take 4 days trekking but only a few hours or even minutes to enjoy exploring the different sectors of Choquequirao!

Bearing in mind that Choquequirao is scattered on both sides of the spur of Apu Corihuayrachina, we will realize a fair amount of time is needed to understand the integrity of its context.

You will enjoy lunch near the ruins and hopefully view the condor fly over the deep canyon.

After your visit to the site, your dinner will be waiting for you at the Camp Site.

We’re confident that this is the best way to Trek Choquequirao. We also service a 4 day tour for those who have great physical condition and short time. Contact us for inquiries.
