The Peruvian Government is constantly seeking to maintain Machu Picchu’s sustainability and to improve visitors on-site experience. New regulations regarding Machu Picchu have recently been made official by the Peruvian Government. The new regulations are the following.
New Entry Times: 3 time slots
Before these new regulations, visitors could enter Machu Picchu during a morning and an afternoon time slots.
Now, starting 2019, there will be three (3) available time slots:
– Early morning time slot: 6am to 8am. There will be 2,400 visitor spaces available.
– Mid morning time slot: 9am to 11am. There will be 1,760 visitor spaces available.
– Afternoon time slot: 12pm to 2pm. There will be 1,440 visitor spaces available
Visitors will continue to have 4 hours available to stay at Machu Picchu from the moment they enter the site.
For visitors hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu:
Visitors sleeping at the Phuyupatamarca Campsite, the night before arriving to Machu Picchu, will enter during the early morning time slot. Visitors sleeping at the Wiñaywayna Campsite, the night before arriving to Machu Picchu, will enter during the mid morning time slot.
Guides are no longer mandatory to enter Machu Picchu.
